Commanders QB Jayden Daniels (Post-Game Transcript)
On how he’s feeling after a physical game and a short week:
“I feel good. I mean, it’s football at the end of the day. Physicality is required in this game, so feel good, just a tough loss.”
On what he thought of the decision to go for it on fourth down:
“I trust the coaching staff and the decision they made. I’m always a part of, ‘Hey, let’s go for it.’ I trust my teammates. I trust the unit. So, I always trust the coaches. I never question them.”
On what happened to his hand and how it feels:
“I’m straight, just got a little cut.”
On how his hand was injured:
“Couldn’t even tell you. Sometimes, it’s football.”
On what happened during the snap on the fourth-down play:
“Yeah, I mean, I’ve got to be louder with the cadence. So, I take fault on that. [Commanders C] Tyler [Biadasz] probably didn’t hear me, so it was delayed with the snap. It gets loud down there. We’re under center, especially in that type of situation at that part of the game. So, I just have to be louder.”
On if teams are using different ways to limit his scrambling ability:
“I mean, everybody’s playing different, so I can’t even answer that question, honestly.”
On how the Eagles defense limited Commanders WR Terry McLaurin:
“I mean, I feel like they had a little plan of, ‘Hey, let’s limit [Commanders WR Terry McLaurin]’ and stuff like that. So, we’ve got to go back and watch the film and figure out ways how I could get Terry the ball, how we could get Terry the ball. Because he’s an explosive player, what he’s done in this league and his resume. So, we want to give our best players the ball as much as possible. So, we’ll figure out ways to move down the road and do that.”
On his immediate assessment of the game:
“Yeah, we have to capitalize. I have to play better. There are some throws I want back for sure. I think we all just have to look at ourselves in the mirror and say how can we get better moving forward?
On what has changed for the offense in the last few weeks:
“For us? Man, we’ve got to execute. We haven’t been executing how we were before at the beginning half of the season. So, we’ve got to go back and, like I said, look at ourselves in the mirror. How can we get better? How can we keep improving? It’s a long season, so there’s going to be ups and downs, but how can we fight through adversity?
On if he feels capable of doing everything he is meant to do:
“Yeah, for sure. I mean, if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be on the field right now. I’m not the only player that’s fine stuff. You know, obviously no player at this point is 100% healthy, and it was a short turnaround, so kudos to the guys that battled back to get their bodies back right for the short game. We’ll get better from that. You know, go back, rest up and get ready for next week.”
On his first two-game losing streak:
I mean, I don’t know if I ever had a two-game losing streak, but I know its ups and downs, and you have to learn different things throughout the rookie year. Like I said at the beginning of the season, everything’s not going to be perfect, even though I wanted to be perfect. But, you know, it just comes just playing the position, man. You have to go through some stuff. You have to go through adversity. It’s how you respond. So, you know, I feel like we’ll respond great, we’ll rest up and we’ll get back to it.”
On his frustration level:
“I mean, I’m frustrated because we lost. So, I don’t like losing. I said that many times, but I feel like everybody could play better, including myself. It starts with me, and it triggers out to everybody else. So, we have to look ourselves in the mirror.”
On what his plan is going forward:
“I don’t even know. Watch football.”
On his conversation with Commanders TE Zach Ertz following his interception:
“We were just talking about what we need to improve on, what he sees and stuff like that. Obviously, [Commanders TE] Zach [Ertz] is somebody that’s been through this type of stuff in his career, so it’s, ‘How can we bounce back?’ And he was kind of just uplifting me, as far as you know, “Hey, no other person I’d rather play with. No other person I’d rather catch the ball from.” It’s a long season, so keep your head up and keep moving forward.”
On if another divisional game next week will motivate him:
“Every game motivates me. It’s not really a divisional game I see. Obviously divisional games mean a little bit more because you obviously want to win your division. But, for me, I want to win as many games as possible. I’ll never take this game for granted. I’ll never cheat the game. You have to go out there and put in the work to get the results, but you have to go through some stuff in sports.”
