Eagles QB Jalen Hurts (Post-Game Transcript)
On the offense in the second half:
“Poor execution. Poor execution. Yeah, poor execution.”
On issues with the third downs:
“Poor execution. I don’t think there’s any other way to put it.”
On the injuries:
“Those guys always have an immediate and instant impact when they’re out there on the field. In the end, we’ve got to execute at a high level. I’ve got to be better. I’ve got to figure it out. However it looks, whatever that means, find a way to win the game. We had our opportunities, and we didn’t take advantage of them. This is an event that we can learn from, that I’ll learn from, and we’ll use. I’ll use.”
On Eagles RT Lane Johnson being unavailable to play:
“Very unfortunate for his unavailability today. In the end, it just was a next man up mentality. Kept the focus on the team, kept the focus on us trying to go out there and be at our best. We had an opportunity to do that. A lot of respect for everyone that stepped in unexpectedly and even throughout the week, different roles, new opportunities, taking advantage of those in the end. This is one that you can learn from, obviously.”
On his perspective of the 4th-and-2 play when they were trying to go up three scores:
“Well, we had a bad exchange on the snap the play before. Comes down to very little things, executing at a high level. So, I think in the end, it comes back to alignment, connectedness to what we’re doing and everybody executing. I think in the end, it comes down to executing. Third down was not good enough, not good enough at all. Situationally, we were not good enough. So, us as a team, we’ve been really good when we’ve been able to be dominant in situational football and we’ve just got to be better and point towards the little things. We point towards the small things that build up to those moments, kind of clean things up when we get in those situations typically. We’re not doing that right now.”
On why they are unable to get the ground game under center and play action pass going:
“I can’t say it’s our flow. We’re finding our flow. We’re finding our flow of things, and ultimately, it comes down to execution. I think everyone in the locker room would say that, and everyone will look internally first with that. So, controlling the things that we can control and being better at executing. [Reporter responds] It’s not a new scheme thing? [Hurts continues] I would say it’s an executing thing. I would say it’s an executing thing.”
On what the message to the team is:
“Get up.”
On the week-to-week ebbs and flows of the season:
“I think it’s less about being even-keeled and more about doubling down on the work and controlling the things that you can. This is a team that is building and finding its way. It’s obviously a work in progress. I have the utmost confidence in this team. I have the utmost confidence in this group. We just have to remain enduring, be persistent, keep committing to one another, and keep committing to the work of becoming a better group together. We’ve just got to continue to grow and go on that journey. You mentioned a lot of these things or little things.”
On the use of the term ‘poor execution:’
“Poor execution. It’s just [that] you’re finding your flow collectively as a unit. I think it comes down to finding a flow, finding a rhythm as a unit, as a group, and going out there and executing at a higher level. We didn’t do that today.”
On his connection to Eagles WR Darius Cooper:
“It’s kind of crazy because those are situations in the game. The game consisted of all these different situations, so you get a play after a turnover. That’s a situation that we excelled in in that moment. You’re in a play where you don’t want to take a sack. You are probably throwing the ball away if you don’t have a clean look and hang in the pocket a little bit, let it develop. He scrambles from within the pocket, and he makes a hell of a catch in the back of the end zone. Those are two examples of situations that we handle well. You have other situations in the game where we didn’t handle so well, where we wish we had another opportunity, whether it be towards the end of the game, in the red zone. I think it’s just all of us looking at this, having that alignment and growing from it. It’s a team game, and it takes all of us to go out there and do what we do and grow from it. I’ve said it all year to this point. It’s not about making any promises or anything. It’s just looking at this thing practically and saying, ‘Who are we?’ Let’s continue to grow from it and let’s build. Keep that hunger, commit to one another, and learn from it.”
On if the injuries felt like they were too much to overcome:
“I never feel that way. I don’t think we felt that way when we had the opportunity to make it a three-score game. I’m not going to make excuses. I’m not going to make promises. I’m just going to double down on the work and lead the best way I can and continue to have the confidence that I have in this group to forge and figure it out.”
On the development of the offense:
“We’re going to forge together. We’re going to figure out a way. We’re going to grow, and we’re going to reflect on these things as we’ve done following any and every game, and come together and continue to get better as a team.”
On the frustration of losing a close game:
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint.”
