Rams Head Coach Sean McVay (Post-Game Transcript)

Opening Statement:

“Okay, guys. Credit to the Eagles for finding a way to come back and get that done. Man, we had our chances. I’m proud of this football team. I’m excited about the response. This is Week Three. We’ve got a lot of growth that we still can have. Came out, took control of the football game, ultimately not being able to finish in the red area. We weren’t good enough on third downs, and some uncharacteristic things that we could execute on. Credit to them, they ended up making some plays. They got back in it. We came out here to win the football game. Those were our expectations. It’s a disappointing locker room, but it’s a locker room that’s going to respond. It’s Week Three and there’s a lot of things that took part in that game. We lost that game as a team and we took the lead as a team. These are the chances to be able to lean in and see what you’re really about. That’s a tough one today. I love this group and I’m excited about growing, and whether we found a way to make that kick or whether we ended up having that result right there, we’ve got to be able to keep it moving. We’ve got a lot of football left and that’s what you’re going to see.”

On the two blocked field goals:

“Yeah, [Rams OL] Kevin Dotson was– the reality is, is that we’ve got to execute better and credit to them, they made the plays. I’m not going to make any excuses.”

On what to say to the team after a game like this and what they should take away:

“Here’s what we’ve learned about ourselves. When you’re 2-0, you don’t learn about anybody. But when you do have a loss like this, I want to see what we’re about. I know what we’re about. I know we’re going to respond. Can’t let the Eagles beat us twice. We’ve got a great challenge coming in here next week. We’ll look at this film, we’ll correct it. We’ll see where there’s opportunities for us to be able to slam the door shut and not give them any sort of life. They made the plays and we didn’t ultimately get it done. And that’s just the reality of it.”

On what he thought about QB Matthew Stafford:

“I thought he gave us a chance, drove us down in position. I love [Rams QB] Matthew [Stafford]. I’m really grateful that he’s leading the way and we’ll look forward to moving on.”

On whether he feels like he left points on the board:

“Oh yeah, absolutely. We did.”

On what he saw from the running game:

“Yeah, we were able to run the ball really efficiently. We were able to control the game. We weren’t good enough on third down. We had a touchdown callback in the red area. That changes the dynamics of a lot of different things. You go from third-and-goal on the two, to third-and-goal on the 12. That’s a big difference right there. Ultimately, we’ve got to be better in the red area. We could have really opened that game up. Our defense was suffocating them. They got going, they got a little bit of life, had some opportunities, and you know what? We came out here to win the game. It didn’t go down like that for us, and I’m looking forward to responding accordingly. That’s exactly what you guys are going to see.”

On whether he felt like there was any common denominator on those third downs:

“We will go back and we’ll look at the tape.”
